If anyone has a problem with the brakes not fully releasing on Bluebird C1FE or similar bus with Hydraulic brakes. They have a steel collar crimped in the flex hose to allow the hold down clap to keep the hose in place. As age in Michigan does it’s normal thing to metal. This causes rust to form between the hose and the clam. This slowly squeezes the hos down resricting flow. I cut the crimp off with a cut off wheel(VERY CARFULLY). Refasten the hold down clamp or a H.D. zip tie works fine. This has remedied the problem and saves a big hassle of replacing the brake line if caught early enough.

Terry, I’m not sure about that size bus but i know if a small bus is bought off the state contract a ”helms manual” (the chassis dealer service manual)is supposed to come with the first vehicle of that model year as a part of the purchase. You may want to check to see if its a part of the contract for that size bus and then talk to your sales rep. if its supposed to be included. I have had to request it after the model year changed during the contract. Hopefully this will help!!! Good Luck, Dave Allegan County Transportation

Wondering if anyone else has ever had a long crank condition on a 6.0 ford when its hot? This is the 3rd one for me and the first 2 i sent to the ford dealership and they replaced some high pressure oil o-rings in the injection system (under warrenty). I looked at my ford service manual for our new 6.0s but its not real clear to me what o-rings they could be talking about. Im thinking its the same thing I had before and im wondering if anyone has ideas what o-rings it could be, and wondering if its a big job to change them? Only ones i could suspect are by the high pressure oil pump. ANY THOUGHTS???? Thanks Dave, Allegan County Transportation

Heres the update. The local ford dealership replaced the high pressure oil manifold plug seals on one side. The manifolds are under the valve covers and i understand that they are a real pain to get to. They removed both covers (had to remove motor mounts and lower the engine to get the covers off) and only replaced the bad ones (i would have thought they would change them all while they were there). The ford tech said it was ”no fun”. The bus is back up and running and starting just fine every time.

Anyone  heard of removing the EGR cooler from the VT365 6.0 engines? One of our venders  has installed a bypass kit on several of  their vehicals and says  they run better and get better fuel economy plus  it eliminates having to replace the darn cooler several times a year. He said  he has 60k on one without the cooler  and other than a code being thrown it does not turn on the chk engine light  or appear to cause any issues he can see. Thoughts? We have several of these and nearly all of them are either out of warranty or about to be so if this will save us time and money I may try it. I was also told throttle response was much better and no noticable changes in any engine temps.

Im not sure if I would do a EGR delete (if thats what your vender is talking about). I think there would be benifits to doing it but if you search online you will find anyone offering this also states that they are for off road vehicles only witch to me means the vehicle will no longer meet federal or state emissions laws. So I would check with the vender to make sure your vehicles would still meet emissions laws before doing this on a Transit vehicle, Good luck! Dave Kortman, Allegan Co. Transportation

Just thought you might like to know that it seems FORD has removed the inline fuel filter from the 09 and up? Econoline chassis (GAS). Its not in its normal location and i called the dealer and they do not show one for that vehicle. Dont know if this will help anyone but it should cut down on some maintance time and gas running down your arms:)

no charge light (but bus is charging), intermitant brake lights, engine cut out, AC not working in one mode or all, just about anything that is one the back of the bus working intermitantly. gillig had an issue for a number of years with a supplier stamping the wiring to deep with the circuit name, then compounded [...]

first off this code is a real pain to diagnose. to get the code to happen the engine normally needs to be hot, and you need to drive it hard up hill. ie the kind of conditions where you would expect to use as much fuel as possible. some techs can get it to happen by [...]
